Garage Sale Weekend...
This weekend was the Woobury Lion's Club Garage Sales...I wish I would have taken pictures because you wouldn't believe the chaos of it all unless you saw it for yourself. The city-wide garage sale is a Friday-Saturday event and people come from Wisconsin, the Dakotas and Iowa to this thing...you literally can not drive down most streets on Friday (which is the main "sale" day), I'm sure our postal carriers LOVE trying to deliver the mail. This year Tom and I decided we would have a garage sale, we usually just take the day off work and do some picking at everyone else's garage sales but we had so much junk we needed to get rid of...I couldn't believe it when we had everything finally moved out to the garage. We didn't even have enough table space...but luckily it was a warm and sunny weekend so we put everything in boxes and set it in the driveway. We had things marked to sell and sell we did! The remaining items will be donated to Goodwill, Neighbors and Lupus.
Tom manned the fort while I snuck out to do a little picking myself. I carefully plotted out my route and managed to hit all the sales that touted "Antiques". There's always three or four churches that have big sales too, those are the sales I love the most, I always find great treasures...like this flower basket for $3.00 (it's huge!), I belive this is what they put flowers in for funerals back in the day. I've seen many old photos with these baskets placed on graves.
Here's just about 1/3 of my haul...and yes, that's a mattress in the background. We were trying to sell our old queen bed but didn't, I'm not too disappointed though because the bed is the only big ticket item that didn't sell...so back down the basement it goes.
Gobs of old ric rac - most of it still sealed in it's original packaging... I got gobs of pretty vintage buttons too but didn't photograph those because I don't want Jessica to see them...
Most of what I'm buying is for re-sale in my Alice and Elsie booth but I really don't think I can part with this pretty blue daisy plate...
...or this "NEST" block!
All these bits and baubles were in a vintage Christmas card box for $1.00...do I know any little girl who's name starts with an "M" that loves vintage brooches??? why yes, I think I do (Madison).
These little wooden musical anges were too adorable to pass up, not sure what I'll do with them but I'm sure I'll think of something!
Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

Busy, Busy, Busy
{SIGH}...we've had such a busy day! I was up at 6:30 to make Matt a big carb-filled breakfast before his track meet. We got him out the door and headed to the State Fairgrounds for the Spring Flea Market...we wanted to get there by 8:00 so we'd have a least 2 1/2 hours to "pick" before having to head to Stillwater for the track meet. Matt wasn't in his usual two events due to time constraints (today is his High School prom) so the one and only event he was participating in was taking place around 11:30. In order to make it across town in time for the race we needed to leave the flea market by 10:30. Here is the loot I scored while quickly browsing through all the vendor booths...I was quite pleased with my findings despite the hurried pace!
Lots of vintage trims, an old honey? jar and a trolley car ticket book...

Love these old pins...and I have to tell you a quick story about the metal childs cupboard in the background...it was marked $2, couldn't believe the price...the vendor had another one very similar marked $24. Why the difference I thought to myself. I went to pay and the vendor was horrified at the price, he got it at a garage sale for $2 but meant to change the price to $22...he gave it to me for $5. Boy did I get lucky!
A girl can never have too many religious items right?

We were out of there promptly at 10:30 and quickly drove the 30 miles to Stillwater High School. Matt's 8 x 200 took place around 11:45 (I was so nervous that I would miss it!)...that's him just finishing handing the baton to his teammate. As soon as he finished we high-tailed it back to Woodbury so he could eat lunch and get ready for prom. We were supposed to be at his date's house by 1:40 for pictures...well, that didn't happen.
I didn't think I would get as emotional for his prom as I did for Shelby's but standing out in the yard taking pictures, well I have to admit, I teared up quite a bit...I didn't actually shed a tear but I sure had to fight them back. We went to his date's house for pictures (we were only about 15 minute late...not too bad.) Her parent's are pretty well off, their house was unbelievable and they let Matt drive their BENTLEY (yes, I said they let a 17 year old drive their BENTLEY) to the school for the Grand March. Her father assured me he drove very slowly (it sounds like they may have followed behind him in another vehicle). I love his date and her parents are wonderful. They'll be eating dinner tonight in her father's restaurant in Minneapolis (hope Matt doesn't spill on his tux!)
After the Grand March Sebastian went to play at a friends house so Tom and I ran back to Roseville to finish looking through the flea market goodies we didn't get time to look through this morning...here's what I picked up in round 2.
I am completely exhaused (as is Tom)...we were supposed to go to our neighbors 50th birthday party but we graciously declined the invitation...the only thing we're going to do tonight is plop down on the couch and watch The Hurt Locker.
Oh, and one more thing...Happy 15th Birthday Jordan, we love you!

Art Journals and Other Goodies
Lately I've been obsessed with making these little journals for my etsy shop. I keep telling myself that I can't buy anymore vintage trims, buttons and trinkets until I use up the huge supply I have now...but I seem to be one of those people that want to keep everything for myself, I always grab some supplies for a item I'm making for my shop then think to myself...I can't use this on something to sell, I want to use this on something I make for myself. Well, I've been forcing myself to use some of those items and here are the end results...(although I still have a few items I can't bear to part with!)
The "X" on the button isn't thread, it was actually made that way...the "X" is metal.
This is a "he said/she said" book that has preprinted questionnaires in various categories (food, first date, favorites, etc.) for both him and her to fill out. My husband and I did this and I was really surprised at his answers. You may think you know how someone will respond but then again, you may be way off track!
This is one of my favorites (sometimes I secretly hope items I have listed in my store don't sell, then I don't feel so bad keeping them for myself...like this one!)
And here are some cute shabby and primitive hearts I made. They'd be good for Valentine's Day decor but I leave mine hanging all year round.

Well I've got to hit the showers...Sunday is the day Tom and I visit our local Goodwill stores and we've got to get there early to get in on the good deals. Sundays and Mondays are the days they have half off depending on the color of the price tag, I think today is half off the green items. If you haven't visited your local Goodwill store check it out...you'd be surprised at the treasures you can find, not to mention that the money they raise helps charitable causes. Hope you all had a nice valentines day.
